About Flag
Design and Symbolism
The current US flag is embellished with thirteen horizontal stripes alternating red and white and fifty white five-pointed stars arranged in nine offset horizontal rows of six stars (top and bottom) alternating with rows of five stars on a blue field at the canton. The number of stars represents the number of states, and a new star should be added on the admission of new state. This has been the system ever since. The flag is also known as Old Glory.
