This flag contains horizontal tricolor of black, red and green with a red raising sun centered on the black stripe. The black color represents the native people of the continent, red symbolizes the blood of the struggle and green represents nature. The raising sun on a black stripe symbolizes the dawn of hope and freedom for the continent of Africa. The 31 rays of the sun represents fact that Malawi was the 31st African nation at the time of its independence.
